Tips for Measuring Curtains and Appliance Covers

MEASURING YOUR WINDOWS

Take time to measure correctly for the mounting style you prefer. For an inside mount, measure inside the wood frame of your window for width and height. This mounting style will give you a picture frame effect that accents your window trim. Tension rods are recommended for this position. For an outside mount, measure from the outside edges of the wood trim to the bottom of the apron. This mounting style will cover most of your trim if selecting a rod-pocket or tab-style curtain. Lengths should be 4" to 6" inches longer than the apron as tiebacks will cause a shortening effect.

DETERMINING CURTAIN FULLNESS
Fullness generally is 1 1/2 to 2 times the window width depending on the style. Button-up curtains and appliqued valances have less than normal fullness.
~~ WIDTH ~~ After determining which mounting style you want, use a tape measure to accurately measure the width needed. When selecting your curtain size, the width measurement will always be listed first (84" x 36").
~~ LENGTH ~~ Again, depending on the mounting style you prefer, measure from the top of the rod to where you want the bottom of the curtain to be. Length is a personal preference; however, allowance should be made for some shrinkage when curtains are laundered. Our rod pocket styles DO NOT include the header (ruffle) in the actual length. The length is always the measurement from the top of the rod and will be listed last in the size selection (84" x 36")

~~ MEASURING FOR CAFE TIERS ~~ Most cafe tiers are hung at the half-way point or sash of the window. If you prefer more privacy, measure 2/3 of the way up the window. If the rod is mounted inside the window moulding, the bottom of the tier normally rests at the sill. If the rod is mounted outside the moulding, the curtain can fall below the apron.
~~ MEASURING FOR FISHTAIL SWAGS ~~ To determine the length, measure the width of the moulding from one corner to the other. Then measure the length you wish the curtain tail to reach on ONE side. Your Total Length = Width + (2x the length of one side).

MEASURING FOR APPLIANCE COVERS

To ensure proper fit, it is VERY important that you follow this method of measuring before ordering an appliance cover. Set the appliance in the position you want it to face you on the counter. First measure the height (bottom to top). That will be the first measurement in the size selection (16 1/2" H x 13" W x 8" D. Next measure the width (side to side). That will be the second measurement in the size selection (16 1/2" H x 13" W x 8" D. Lastly, measure the depth of the appliance (front to back). That will be the last measurement (16 1/2" H x 13" W x 8" D.
Exact measurements are required for all custom orders and recommended for ready-made orders. Any appliance can be fitted for an appliance cover using this method of measuring. Please email for a quote for appliances that do not fall within the standard sizes.
